Pray For Me Mom!

"Pray for me Mom!" my son shouts out to me as he hurtles himself and his bike up a ramp as fast as he can , into the hope of the exhilarating ride of his life, or the disappointing crunching of bones and bloody flesh. Though he has fear he presses on, pumping his legs faster and faster toward his target, believing the best but knowing the worst is possible, and so he shouts out to me at the last second, "Pray for me Mom!".  I do. I can only breathe a few words out, "keep him safe Lord", but it is enough. The joy of a jump well landed follows and we praise God for being with us in that moment.

How many times have I called out to my mom to pray for me as I zoom toward the unknown? To many to count. First days of school, new friends, first boyfriend, first driving lesson, first job, first car, moving from home, getting married, starting a business, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th baby...  I have landed jumps, and I have bit the dust. My mom and dad have stood by and offered what they could to help.  Sometimes just a few words spoken by reflex, "keep her safe Lord!" It is enough.  He hears, his Spirit intercedes, and God's grace and mercy are doled out as I hit the target and experience exhilarating success, and when I bite the dust and taste the bitterness of defeat.

I'm thankful for the prayers of my family. I'm so blessed that others would take time to consider my needs and to kneel before the throne of our mighty God and lift me up.  I'm thankful to have a loving heavenly father who allows me, through the sacrifice of his son Jesus, to approach him with my heart and give him all my worries, troubles, triumphs and random thoughts.  I'm thankful to be able to pass on this legacy of prayer to my children.  May they come to know this awesome God who cares for them so much that he died so he could get to know them.

As we continue to ride out this amazing adventure of life, "Lord keep us safe".
