I just had the funniest conversation in the car on the way home from AWANA with my kids. They were talking about when they would be an Uncle or Auntie. I told them they would have to get married first and I nixed the whole getting married to each other idea, as society tends to frown on that even if we are red necks. So right away Matia solved her dilemma by announcing, "I'm going to marry Ben!" our friend's son. Well, Dade thought that was a very good choice and heartily agreed to the match. He was stumped though and thought maybe he should marry his cousin Brooklyn. I told him that was still kind of frowned upon, and suggested that he marry one of his friends who was not related to him. That's when the idea came to him that he should marry Kashley, another family friend (both kids picked quite good matches actually). I told him he would have to check with her dad first, and that her dad would want to know that Dade had a good job and would pay all their bills. Matia decided right then and there that Ben should go work at her dad's water store, but she, herself, would work at McDonalds. She is going to make the fries! She is also going to stay home and cook meals and clean up the house and drive her kids to AWANA. Dade thinks he will be able to support Kashely by working at Wendy's and he will be making the burgers.
Next they began to plan their weddings. First they were trying to decide who would get married first, because Dade said they should have their weddings "one after a other". So Matia thought she should go first since she is the youngest (which is the rule of thumb when playing board games in our house). I told them that the tradition with weddings is for the oldest in the family to get married first. So they both agreed that Dade & Kashely should get married first. After that Dade thought he'd like to get married in a church, since that's where lots of people get married. Matia reminded him that Auntie got married on the grass (her wedding was at a golf course on a beautiful summer day), and thought that she might like to do that. She added that she wanted to have purple daisies, red roses, yellow sunflowers and daffodils, white lilies and pink poppies to decorate her wedding. Dade suggested that it might also be nice to have some red roses and orange "nap dragons" too.
This conversation lasted about 15 minutes and I've only given you the important details that I can remember. I was driving with my hand over my mouth to prevent them from hearing my howls of laughter. I thought you might get a kick out if it too. Kashley's Mom, you might want to warn Kashely's dad that there is an eligible bachelor who has cast his eye upon your daughter and may be seeking an audience with him one of these Sundays after church.
LOVE this post. I sure hope you printed this one off to show the kids in 20 years :)
