Mess and Procrastination

I don't want to turn away from my computer screen. On my computer screen are lovely images of tidy homes, organized home school moms who have risen early, prayed for their families, baked delicious and nutritious home made bread for their adoring families and are working on neat and fun educational activities individualized for each of their childrens' learning strengths. On my computer screen I see tips and tales of ways to keep organized, it's really very easy you know.

If I look up from my computer screen I see the 4th water spill of the morning, I see a pile of used Kleenexes beside me, I see dishes stacked and left over pancakes and strawberries mushing together on the plate sitting in the midst of the water spill on the kids' table. In my minds eye I see stacks of laundry consuming the washer and dryer on both sides. I see rooms strewn with toys and bedding and clothing.

I know that sitting here gazing at the screen will not improve the situation around me, yet I can hardly bear to tear my eyes away. Where would I start if I did? I know, I know, usually I start with the dishes, once that's dealt with it's nice to put away clean laundry. By the time that is finished it will probably be time to start lunch, ergo more dishes. At nap time I will tote away some of the debris from the kids room and transfer the wash to the dryer and start again. My last stance of resistance before I succumb to a nap will be to collect the rogue Kleenexes that are floating around the house (Ugh). I know I could get more done if I stayed up, but napping is essential for sanity these days. After naps maybe we will try something nifty and crafty or baky or buildy or out doorsy... or maybe I'll wimp out and we'll just free play with toys while I try to collect myself before working on supper.

Well that sounds like the makings of a plan. I guess I better go put it into motion, unless I can find one more blog to peruse and delay the inevitable.

  1. I like to sit at my computer when I am overwhelmed with what is behind my back too. Those moms you mentioned are telling part of the story - because EVERYONE'S kids are messy. EVERYONE has dishes and laundry and scattered toys and fatigue and lack of motivation with which they must contend. EVERYONE. Take care of your little baby. Take a nap!!

  2. Maybe I should post pictures of my house and the food I cook. It might make you feel better. People only choose to show what they want you to see and of course they will blog about the good stuff. Accept the chaos and move on...that's what I do. haha! Rest. Take a nap.

  3. Messy house = Happy house in my book. Messes really are just a sign that your kids are active and growing and exploring!!! My fav quote is--- "Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing." (Phyllis Diller) So don't be hard on YOU--- :):)
