A door opens, so do my eyes.
I listen.
Small footsteps pad down the hall.
I squint at the clock, I guess it's time to get up.
I wait for the call "Mommy, I want somefing to eat".
It doesn't come.
I listen to silence, except
it's not all silence.
A strange sound occurs now and then.
What is it?
Time passes, and I know I should investigate.
I rouse myself from my comfort.
I tip toe down the hall...
There he is, my son.
Standing on his chair
beside an open peanut butter jar and an open jam jar.
No bread in sight.
smack, lick, suck
He tastes his fingers.
When he sees me he smiles.
"Morning Mommy"
